๐ŸŽ“Transition to School

There appears to be a misguided concept that in order for a child to be ready for school, they should be able to write their name and achieve various academic skills. This is not necessarily the case!

The EYFS states that it promotes teaching and learning to ensure childrenโ€™s โ€œschool readinessโ€ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Although there is no common agreement on the definition of school readiness, it is widely accepted that it refers not just to a childโ€™s cognitive and academic skills but involves physical, social and emotional development as well.

Please take a look at the below "Road to School" map. How far down the road is your child?

๐ŸšŒ What does Natural Nurture do to support the Transition to School?

  1. Once we know which school your child is going to, we try to encourage friendships with other children who will also be going to the same school.

  2. We will arrange for your childโ€™s new teacher to visit your child whilst at Natural Nurture so that your child can start to familiarise themselves with the teacher.

  3. If due to scheduling we canโ€™t arrange for your childโ€™s new teacher to visit then your Key worker (with your permission) will have a call to discuss your child.

  4. Throughout their time at Natural Nurture they will be practicing and perfecting all the different steps on the โ€œRoad to Schoolโ€ map so that they will be more prepared emotionally, physically and socially and have more confidence in their own abilities than other children who havenโ€™t had the benefit of going to Natural Nurture.
